About this API

data.snb.ch is the statistical data portal of Switzerland's central bank. Statistics are organised as cubes — each dataset has its own identifier (e.g. rendopar for bond yields), and data is retrieved with a plain GET request at /api/cube/{id}/data/json/en. The same cube is also available as CSV (/data/csv/en), and /dimensions/en returns its dimension structure. The JSON response is a list of time series made of date–value pairs. Coverage includes interest rates and yields, exchange rates, monetary aggregates, the balance of payments and the central bank's own balance sheet. Access is free and requires no registration; the SNB permits non-commercial reuse of the data with attribution to the source, and the data itself is published for information purposes only.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an API key?

No. The SNB data portal exposes the API publicly, with no key and no registration — you simply call the URL of the chosen dataset (cube).

What data does this API return?

Time series of the SNB's official statistics: interest rates and yields, exchange rates, monetary aggregates, the balance of payments, banking statistics and the central bank's balance sheet. Each dataset (cube) has its own identifier, and data comes back as date–value pairs.

Can this API be called directly from a browser?

No. Responses carry no CORS header allowing cross-origin calls, so the API has to be called server-side rather than from front-end browser code. That is why there is no live "Try it" button here.

Who runs this API?

The Swiss National Bank (SNB / Schweizerische Nationalbank), Switzerland's central bank. API documentation is available at data.snb.ch.
